Privacy Policy

Briarpatch is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of our subscribers’ personal information. To comply with privacy legislation, we have developed this Privacy Policy. Any personally identifiable information about our subscribers will be treated in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Our relationship with you

To maintain our relationships with subscribers and donors, and to keep you informed about our work, we collect some or all of the following information about you:

  • name, address, telephone number
  • e-mail address
  • banking and credit card information as needed

Using your personal information

We collect, use and disclose your personal information to:

  • send you information and publications
  • solicit donations and subscription renewals
  • inform you of campaigns promoting issues covered in our magazine in which you may choose to participate

A list of donors is occasionally published in Briarpatch to thank those who support our cause. Alternately, donors who choose to remain anonymous should inform us of their preference when making their donation. On occasion, on behalf of other organizations, we include an insert in the magazine to keep you informed of other groups who are part of the struggle for social and environmental justice. In order to find new subscribers, we occasionally exchange mailing lists with like-minded organizations for one-time mailings. If you prefer not to receive such mailings, please write to us.

Your name and address information, including e-mail address, is used by staff and volunteers who are involved in the distribution of our publication and related mailings. All volunteers are asked to sign a confidentiality agreement. The publisher is accountable for Briarpatch’s compliance with the principles outlined in the Code for the Protection of Personal Information.

Before using your information for any other purpose, we will explain the purpose and obtain your consent. We will not collect, use or disclose information without your consent, except where mandated by law.

Your rights

You have the right to access your personal information and request changes, if needed. Should you exercise this right, we will not unreasonably withhold requested materials or services. It is your right to choose not to provide us with some or all of your personal information, or to deny us the use or disclosure of your information for certain purposes. We will act immediately to comply with your wishes.

Security of your personal information

Our systems and procedures are designed to prevent the loss, misuse, unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction of your information. We retain your information for as long as needed for our purposes and/or any legal or regulatory requirements.
