Hi Andrea:

I must say I wish you'd contacted us directly to let us know you never received payment, in order to give us a chance to rectify the situation before going public with your complaints. Briarpatch depends heavily on the goodwill of contributors who are willing to work for, frankly, little more than volunteer honoraria (the author of this piece, for instance, was paid $0.05/word to write, with all involved fully cognizant of the irony of the situation).

I checked our records and it looks like a cheque was made out to you on November 20, 2009 and should have been sent to the address you provided. I take it you never received that cheque?

Let us know and we can reissue it to you. And thanks again for contributing to Briarpatch.

Best,
Dave

The situation with Canadian illustrators is pretty similar - I was offered $25 to produce an illustration for this article last September, and I never got paid.
